LISS Data Archive > The effects of cigarette excise tax increases on smoking behavior As of April 1, 2023, the government increased tobacco excise taxes. The goal of this survey is to study the effect of this increasing the prices of tobacco on the behavior of smokers. Data for the first wave was collected in March 2023, before the first tax increase, data for the second wave in December 2023. As of April 2024 the excise duties on cigarettes and rolling tobacco was raised even more. In March 2024, just before the second tax increase, data among smokers in the LISS panel were collected. Months after the second tax increase, data for the second measurement of 2024 (the final wave) were collected.
